Some interesting research from watchmojo and tubemogul was recently shared on TC and it points out to how online video is discovered and consumed online. Some of the key points of these researches were that regardless of whether the video is user-generated or premium professional content
  1. An online video will garner on an average 500 views over time nearly 53% of youtube videos have less than 500 views
  2. 25% of those views will come in the first four days and 75% in first 44 days
  3. 54% of audience will watch only the first 30 to 60 seconds
  4. How an Online Video is found:
  5. 45% of views come from direct navigation where a user goes to YouTube and searches to “recover” something they have already seen or are actively looking for.
  6. The other 55% of the time, users stumble upon a video and “discover” it.  Most of this discovery happens via blogs, search engines and social networks
