Rapleaf has been doing some research on Social networking and have come out with an interesting report based on a survey of 49.3 million users this can be pretty useful for targeting the social networks though it is predominantly US data. Some of the key highlights of the report are
  • Women outnumber men by a considerable amount and women aged 14-24 dominate activity on social networks and have more friends than men of the same ages.
  • Women and the 14-24 year old demographic are more likely to use Myspace and Facebook than other demographics (the 14-24 year old demographic represents 65.5% and 66.25% of total users respectively)
  • Men and the 25-34 year old demographic are more likely to use LinkedIn and Flickr than other demographics (the 25-34 year old demographic represents 51.0% and 38.1% of total users respectively)
  • Men ages 35+ are more active and have more friends than women of the same ages
