In one of the rare surveys on India's internet space leading market research firm Synovate have done a study commissioned by Business Today Some of the key points of the study are
  • There are 17 million people in India who are estimated to visit social networks regularly.
  • The key activities of an Indian internet users comprise mainly of email, news , entertainment and social networks.
  • India's total online advertising spend is around 250 crore out of which only 20 crores go to Social networks.
  • Orkut is the highest used social network followed by Bigadda and Facebook is behind (see pic)
  • Nearly 67% of Indian users across the net have brought a product or service on the base of net ads
  • An overwhelming 94 per cent of corporate executives in India are aware of the social networking phenomenon and 79 per cent are actually members of one or more social networking site
  • Around 30% of people across all segments are bored of social networking
The key thing to me is the table just besides which shows the favored activities of Indian internet users what works the most on internet in India
