Bing has finally brought some competition to the world of search and Microsoft's decision engine has started to make some small dents in google's monopoly. Comscore has brought out the numbers and two weeks after its launch Bing has continued to make waves and is actually gaining market share for Microsoft. Bing's market share is now 12.1% which is 3% more than prior to the launch of bing.
More interesting is this Google trends data shown below about interest in Bing worldwide which suggests that after a great deal of hype even though interest has reduced but bing is still at pretty popular amazingly India is the place with one of the highest interest in bing which makes me wonder.
As I had already stated earlier in my opinion Bing is nothing more than a few tweaks in how the search results are presented to users but this does proves though that a few changes in the experience you give to users can actually go a long way especially in getting the attention of the early adopters. In my opinion getting the mass to switch consistently is going to be painstakingly difficult since google has grown to become a habit and habits are harder to break and we will revisit these numbers after a period of time to see how Bing does in the long term. Again another thing to be appreciated is how Microsoft and its PR team have kept on giving people something to write about Bing and have thus kept it in public memory which is an interesting strategy backed by a good product but will it work only time will tell.

I think you are right on the point that only time will tell whether Bing will be successful or not. Moreover I feel that the spike in the populatiry of Bing is that more and more "early adopters" are trying it out. If Bing provides them with better Search/Decission Results then Google will have to aggressively defend its ground.
Personally I do not find much of a difference between the results of both searches. Never-the-less Bing's presentation is much cooler...
