Social networking leader in US Myspace following on the heels of Facebook has launched their self service ad platform Myads and is allowing Cost Per Click(CPC) Display only advertising on Myspace. Ads are prioritized based on the maximum CPC rate stated by the advertiser as well as relative click information - meaning that, like Google, advertisers will pay less if their ads tend to be clicked on a lot.Meant to get smaller advertisers — especially MySpace's avid musicians community — spending money on the site, MyAds sells all ad inventory on its network through the self-serve platform except for the homepage, which is reserved for big spending brands.
The key to MySpace’s ad platform is their hypertargeting technology which not only allows users to map age, sex and geographic location against specific keywords but also within each users interest category. Facebook allows targeting as well, although it’s based on interest areas put in by users directly. So if someone says they like books, you can target ads to them based on that. What MySpace does is much different - they build out a profile of each user based on what they do on MySpace over time and includes some very MySpace-specific options for targeting including "drinking," "partying," and professional wrestling. Now Monetizing Social networks has been a problem with both Google and facebook trying their hands and struggling in the process can Myspace be any different we whould find out very soon (More at TC,RWW)
